My first week in Florida

Hey everyone! My name is Katie. I have reciently moved to Hollywood Florida. It was a huge move for me... all the way from Canada!! Things are alot different down here. For one thing I had to leave all of my friends back in Canada. The weather here is really nice though... I mean we get the odd thunder and lightning storm where we get floods in a matter of about three minutes, but it's warm anyway. I love that all I have to do is walk outside and I (almost) instantly have a tan.
The culture down here is ALOT different from Canada though. I mean in Canada most men wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of speedo's on a public beach, unless they were trying to make people laugh, but down here I have seen at least three old men in speedo's..... one of them was wearing a thong for heavensake!!!!
Because of things like this I think it will take me a long time to be able to call this tropical paridise "home".
But, however , I fit right in when it comes to driving down here. In Canada where I was restricted by road rules, Down here I am free. I mean even if I get a speeding ticket all I have to do is go to court and tell the judge how stupid the cop was for giving me the ticket and then I'm off the hook! Not to mention the fact that things like blinkers, speed limits and street lights do not apply down here when you are in an emergency( like you need to get to the 24 hour grocery store before it closes or that your cell phone is glued to your ear so bad that it has caused you to momentarily forget that you are driving around in a head on collision waiting to happen.)
Then there are much more peaceful moments, when I'm laying out by the pool looking into the beautiful blue sky with the palm trees swaying in the tropical air, that make me thankful that God has brought me here. Moments like that ... when I'm in the presence of God let me know that as long as I'm in His presence I am "home", no matter where I am ( even in a world where it seems sometimes that I am invisible).
