The Dust Has Settled, the power's back on!
We made it thru!! That hurricane (Katrina) was pretty crazy! On thursday, when it was blowing in, my brother and I were out driving around in it! It was wild and AWESOME! well, I can say that because no trees or street lights hit our car... compliments to the blood of Jesus. But there were street lights and trees and power lines falling down everywhere. But my brother and I had to get a birthday gift for my dad. We wanted to go to the Christian book store, but it was just closing up when we got there. So we went to Walgreens(drugstore), the only place still with power. However after we were there for about 5 mins the lights started flickerig there, so my brother and I quickly got my dad a crossword puzzle book and some candy he likes and a card. Not exactly a nice personal christian book, but it served the purpose in our situation. On thye way home from the store we felt like we were in "downtown Bagdad"... the real one... in the middle of a war! We litterally spent three quarters of our drive home either in the ditch driving around a tree, in the left lane driving around a car accident or a down power line, or stopped completely because of heavy rain. It was the worst thing I've ever driven in in my life! We got home safely though, just in time for our own power to go out. We spent the rest of the night eating pot roast (cooked on the barbeque) and playing card games by candlelight, well, flashlight. Let me tell you, that was the hottest night of my life thus far! lol! that just struck me kinda funny... what a loser!... no no, anyway... What I mean is that the temperature was rediculous, because we didn't have any air conditioning. It's really funny because when the power went out I was thinking (like a true Canadian) that at least we won't have to worry about freezing to death... It didn't even cross my mind that we might fry in our sleep!! The next day we felt like we were in a forest... no roads to be seen. We realised that they still somehow had power in the Park Models up by the office... so we stayed in one of them for the rest of the weekend. It was actually really nice. There were no trees above us, so we all slept pretty soundly. I think God is amazing, because our house is directly underneath three or four huge trees that are just the same type as the ones falling down all over miami... and not even a branch fell on our house! That has got to be Gods hand. And He provided us with a house to live in with power, fully furnished, for the whole weekend! I saw some people on the news who had to evacuate into crowded Gyms or stay home and just deal with the heat! They had to drive around in their cars (with very little gas) just so that they could get a few minutes of AC. Our family is very blessed... Jesus you desirve ALL MY PRAISE!!
My Dad Sometimes calls me Katrina!
So yeah, so far this year we have had a hurricane Emily that ripped thru the Keys and now we have Hurricane Katrina just off the coast of Hollywood (where I live). I am beginning to think someone from the hurricane Center is making fun of my sister and I ... well, HA HA, very funny joke!! Whatever! As far as I can see Katrina won't quite be leaving as much destruction as Emily, but She will be hitting closer to home.... If that isn't a metaphore for our different fighting techniques I don't know what is!! hehe! Anyways if you could all say a quick faithful little prayer for the destruction to be minimal that would be great! I'll let you all know what it was like on saturday, but for right now, we have to get to the grocery store and get some water and food... we were supposed to evacuate this morning at 8am, but we haven't yet, and no cops have come thru yet to make us get out, so I guess we're in no imediate danger... It's more exciting for me than anything (to be honest). The only real danger right now is complete boredom since we can't really go outside, I think I'll make a stop at Blockbuster ( before things get bad) and stock up on movies. Blog ya later...
A New Baby Cousin!!
Happy Birthday SYDNEY RENE NORREEN ARMSTRONG!! That is the name of my new baby girl cousin! Aunt Sandy went into labour on sunday morning and had her sunday night! Did I mention she is a girl?! That would be another point for the girls team! Sydney makes 6 girls (in the infamous armstrong cousin mafia!) compared to 12 boys. The boys are still doubling us, but please, us girls don't pay any attention to them anyway! hehe! jokes! Welcome to the world Sydney! I love you! I can't wait to meet you!! From the oldest of the girls to the youngest. XO
There's going to be a WEDDING!!!
Yay! The first of the Armstrong cousins is getting married! Greg proposed to Megan about 2 weeks ago in Boston. (I know, delayed reaction). I am sooo excited for her. Greg is so nice. We've been waiting for this one for a long time. So, this begins the second generation of Armstrong family weddings. What a party I'm sure it will be! I mean u have us crazy armstrongs, mixed with Bonny River folk... LOOK OUT!! This is going to be wild!! I can't wait to start hearing about all the plans! Megan is going to make such a BEAUTIFUL bride!! Awe Tear*!
New Cell Phones!
I am so glad that my mom decided to get two new cell phones for our family today. I really don't like going for drives into the scary ghetto's of Miami without one. Especially late a night... people get shot down there!! But you have to drive thru these places to get to much cooler places like South Beach. So I am very pleased to have a cell phone to be able to call the cops when I get mugged. So now, what else is new? My sister and I did absolutely nothing today. No, litterally, NOTHING. We watched Tv in our PJ's until like 4:00pm and then we made supper. We might go swimming later. I love days off, but I hate the feeling at the end of the day that I haven't accomplished anything today. Aw well, I'm sure I'll more than make up for it when I go to work tomarrow. So yeah, even if this blog isn't very interesting, at least all you, my friends, still know that I'm alive:) I want to go to Canada and I can't wait until I do... I would like to go before the end of the summer... who knows, I could show up on your doorstep next... da da da!!!
Normal Day... Je ne pas like work!!!! Grrrrr!
Well, today so far I've slept in until 11:00 and went grocery shopping with my mom... soon we will go and get Caleb and I will go to work until ten o'clock tonight... that doesn't make me happy... what a day, I feel like fridays gone already! This weekend I have no plans...maybe I will go to the beach. Who knows! I want to be back in Canada!!!
The Boys Are Back in Town!!
I have had alot of fun these past couple of weeks. It has just been us girls ( my mom, my sister, and I), as my dad and brother were in Canada. but they are in Boston tonight and will both be home tomarrow night! I am soo excited to see them. but us girls have had a whole lot of fun together too. Admittedly most of our time was spent watching chick flicks and eating watermelon. We did go on a little road trip for a night though. On Monday we ventured to the west coast of Florida to a little island called Sanibel and Captiva. It was absolutely gorgeous there! We stayed at this great resort type hotel. We went to the Mucky Duck for supper. We bet money on a crab in the Nascrab races. He didn't win even though his shell was the shinniest, he just sat in the middle of the table. After the races we went to the beach in front of our hotel to look at the stars. They were amazing! When I get a house of my own I am going to make my whole roof out of glass so I can see the stars every night! I miss the stars so much... all you see down here in the city at night is smog and airplanes! The next day we went to the beach. It was the most amazing thing ever. The sand was white and smooth and sparkly and it stuck to my skin and stayed there all day... it wouldn't come off. hehe. While we were at the beach we went shelling (that is looking for shells). Well, we didn't have to look far at all... the beaches were COVERED with them! I have never seen so many shells in all my life! They were literally piled up on the beach and the farther out in the water you went the bigger and shinnier the shells you would find. After the beach we went shopping at some outlet stores. I got some great Jeans and a cute purse from Gap for only like $20 total! and I also got a swimsuit... which wasn't really a bargain at all, but very flatering. It was a wonderful trip and It was nice to get to know my mother and sister a little better again. We have bonded alot over these past couple of weeks. We've realised some different things we have in common and also, hehe, a little bit about how to push each other buttons a bit too much. I love my mother and Sister, but our house definitely needs its testosterone back!! Welcome home DAD and CALEB!! We missed you!!
My Rambling for Today
I don't really have much to talk about today, well, nothing new anyway, but I don't want to get behind on my blogging, so here goes...I just got back from swimming and can I just say HOW REFRESHING!! Sometimes swimming feels kinda like a chore to me, but I force myself to do it for the exercise, but not today. Today was just pure relaxation (and after a night like last night I needed a little down time)! Last night at work just before I was about to close the Golf shop up for the night a man came in with his son and wanted to buy three buckets of balls to shoot off right then. I tried to explain to him that we were closing the store in five minutes, but he just wouldn't listen and demanded that I give him what he wanted. So I gave him two buckets and he took them (after getting mad at me and left the store to start his game. Needless to say his game lasted about forty-five minutes, meanwhile I was waiting to close. I didn't end up getting out of there until 11:00 and I had been there for 11 hours! Today I had to get up at 6:30 am to drive my mom and sister to work... it took me FOREVER to get up.I didn't even hear my mom the first three time she yelled at me! But now all is well and I am Alone!! Finally!! Peace and Quiet is my Favorite today. Oh yeah, I guess I do have something else to talk about... My trip to DISNEY WORLD!!! I went there last week. All I can say is I was crying the whole time. Not because I was sad, but because it was a dream come true for me and because you can't help but cry because of the Magical atmosphere of the place. I am truly serious, you can't even imagine the fireworks show at the end. I could cry just thinking about it right now! It was horrible!! Then at the end, as if I wasn't crying enough already, they played the song " The dreams that you wish will come true" from Cinderella ( my most favorite Disney movie of all time). I was basically a puddle by that point. It all still gives me goosebumps even now. It truly is 'the happiest place on earth'! I want to go there with all of my friends who come down. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge. So anyway, I should go to the grocery store now and get stuff for my mom's supper. Maybe we'll have steak... yeah, that sounds good. Je suis bored now, I've had enough of alone today. I think I'll go bother one of our neighbours.
